If you work with several users on the same database, it is always possible that a user wants to open and edit an object (also in Admin and the folder use in the Explorer) at the same time (in parallel) as another user. As long as the user makes no changes, there will be no notification. Once a user edits the open object, the object is blocked for all other users.
The following scenarios need to be taken into account for parallel editing of elements:
Case 1:
•Element is already open for editing by a user. A second user opens the same element.
•The element is open. A padlock icon is displayed in the tab in front of the element code. If the second user makes changes to the element, the message "Element xx is already locked by user XY" appears. The changes can only be saved by using Save as.
Case 2:
•One and the same element is opened by two different users (no change indicator for the element yet).
•User 1 changes something, e.g. Starts, Includes, Ends, Limitations and saves his changes.
•User 2 now changes something and receives the message "Element has been changed since the last load. Your changes will be lost." The data of the element is reloaded, the changes of user 1 are visible.
•User 1 closes its element and user 2 does not edit the open element until the padlock icon on the tab has disappeared. He finishes editing the element by using Save and Close. If user 2 does not wait for the padlock symbol to disappear, case 1 applies.
•If user 1 reopens the element, he sees his changes (unless overwritten again by user 2) and the new changes made by user 2.
Case 3:
•User 1 is administrator, user 2 is a normal user.
•User 2 has opened an element and changes the description.
•User 1 opens the same element. He does not receive a message, the padlock symbol is visible in the tab.
•User 1 clicks on the Unlock button, then he edits and saves the element.
•If user 2 also wants to save the element, only the Save as button is available. If he closes the tab, he receives the following message in the status bar: "The lock of your element has been removed by another user. Your changes cannot be saved. If you still want to save, please use Save As." It is not possible to save via the Close dialog.
